Child Support

Parents are required under Texas law to provide their children with shelter, food and clothing while the child is in their custody. Texas child support is an additional financial obligation given to the parent that does not determine the primary residence of the child. Texas law will never require a parent to pay more than 50% of their net monthly earnings for child support.  The percentages listed below are reduced if the parent has other children to support in a separate household. The Texas Family Code provides certain guidelines when determining the amount of child support a parent should pay when their net monthly resources are $6,000 per month or less:

1 child 20% of the net monthly income
2 childen 25% of the net monthly income
3 children 30% of the net monthly income
4 children 35% of the net monthly income
5 children 40% of the net monthly income
